Diagonal Thinking was established by Phil Birchenall, an industry professional with over 20 years high-level experience working in the creative, digital and media sectors and a vast network of contacts around the world.

Before starting the business, Phil was Managing Director of an international media consultancy, working with some of the biggest brands in television. As MD his role was to grow the company through new business generation, design and implement new services for its client base, and to continually improve the operation of the business. Here he represented the business at international events, and regularly wrote think-pieces on the intersection of TV and technology for major trade publications.

He previously worked in a number of roles supporting the creative, digital and media industries, developing and managing targeted training initiatives and business support programmes, and delivering strategic development projects for the public sector. Phil also worked at Manchester’s pioneering CIDS (Creative Industries Development Service). In his role of Service Manager he supported a wide portfolio of creative, digital and media business, helping them to focus on their growth, whilst also creating industry-wide initiatives.
